Firewood Storage Tips

  • Pick a dry spot for your woodpile. Choose a convenient place that is not directly against your home or business. Insects will relocate to feed and live-in deadwood, and you want to avoid any pest problems. 
  • Keep your firewood off the ground. Pile your firewood on a supporting base such as cement blocks, pallets, or wooden planks. The base prevents rotting, keeps the wood dry, reduces insect infestation, and improves air circulation. The second and following rows should be loosely piled to ensure adequate air circulation.
  • Cover the top of the firewood with a tarp to control moisture but keep the sides open for airflow.
  • During the winter months, bring the firewood indoors a few days before you intend to burn it.
